EVENT DESCRIPTION

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed annually on March 21, commemorates the day that police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid pass laws in 1960.

This enlightening event presents different multi-faceted perspectives on combatting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. Speakers from various racialized and Indigenous backgrounds will highlight the opportunities for action, showing how public servants can work together, across their networks and communities, to continue eliminating racism and intolerance.

Through a panel discussion, participants will learn what they can do, individually and collectively, to combat racial discrimination in their workplace and communities, and advance the Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Inclusion in the Federal Public Service.
