Waitangi Day is an annual commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the founding document of New Zealand. It is a public holiday throughout New Zealand, unless the day coincides with the weekend in which case, the Monday that follows becomes a holiday. Ceremonies take place all over the country to mark the signing of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
