This day is commemorated by a focus on tackling some of the difficulties that many youths face across the world. It is reported that half the children between 6 and 13 are without reading and math skills world-wide. International Youth Day was established to bring awareness to such issues as the work continues to solve these problems. The day is observed reflectively and contemplatively with organised events, including concerts, workshops and cultural shows that take place globally and locally with the aim of getting more people onboard to tackle youth problems.
