EVENT DESCRIPTION

The first day of Muharram, which is the first month in the Islamic calendar begins at sunset. The event falls on a different day every year due to the Islamic year being shorter by 11 to 12 days. The day is marked by rituals and prayers because Muharram is considered to be the month of remembrance and is sacred to Muslims around the world. The word Hijri comes from Hijra which means migration.
