Before the birth of the Earth Day movement in 1970, people in the United States were using a great deal of gas through large, defective automobiles. Automobile giants contributed a great deal to air and environmental pollution but gave very little thought or concern to the consequences that could emerge from communication platforms or legislation. In fact, they perceived air pollution as the odour of success. During this time, ordinary Americans were entirely unaware of the environmental concerns and the effects a polluted environment could have on their health. Fastforward to the present time, the fight for a clean environment is increasing with a sense of urgency as the effects of climate change becomes more and more visible.
